Reading-Friday

Watch the video to hear the story of Uno’s Garden by Graeme Base and hear about today’s task.

While you are looking at the pages, see what you notice, you might even want to pause on each page to look carefully through the detailed pictures.

In your reading book, write about some of the changes that you noticed in the story. Think about the plants, animals, buildings and people. Try and write about at least 3 things that changed over the story.

What do you think the message of this story is? Finish this sentence…

I think the author wants us to learn that….

EXTENSION:

Watch the video of the book Window by Jeannie Baker (you will have seen an example from this book in an art lesson from Christine)

What is similar about this story to Uno’s Garden? Could you describe a theme that they both explore?

You might even like to research these author/illustrators (Graeme Base and Jeannie Baker) and see if you can find out anything that is similar about them or their books.

  1. Hi Candice,
I think the author is telling us that we can all play a little bit of a role in looking after the environment. If we all do that, the effect is multiplied.

  2. The 3 things that changed over the story was the numbers of animals got less as the number of buildings got more, there were more buildings with more people, as there are more people there were more trains and cars and there were less trees as there were more people.

  3. my answers:
    1. Uno’s garden
    2.The color of the plants
    3. The buildings
    4. The animals and how many there were
    5. The people
    6. Uno’s life

  4. Uno’s garden
The 3 things that changed in the story was that the number of animal’s got less and the buildings got more, there were more buildings with people, there more trains and car’s than tree’s as there were more people and building.

I think the author ,message is that we should plant trees, take care of earth and our environment.
