Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to term 4! We have attached the remote learning plan for the first week of Term 4, and what will be our last week of remote and flexible learning (we think and hope!).
The first week back we are continuing with the same WebEx schedule as used in Term 3 and trying to keep things the same as far as possible for the last week before we return to the classroom for week 2. We are very much looking forward to seeing the students in person and settling them back into prep life.
Maths activities for the week are based on the book ‘One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab’ and include a mix of open ended activities and some revision of addition. Reading activities are a mix of some sentence and word work, a spelling focused activity and an introduction to compound words.
Just a reminder about today (Friday 18th September) that we will having a dance party at 12:00pm in Leigh’s Webex room-
https://eduvic.webex.com/meet/richardson.leigh.m. There will also be no parent forum on Webex this afternoon today.
We hope you have a restful and relaxing holiday break.
Thanks for your continued support,
Alice and Leigh
Dear Parents and Carers,
Attached is the schedule for remote and flexible learning for the last week of term three. Thank you again for your ongoing support, communication and feedback during remote learning
Remote learning arrangements will continue for the first week of term four from 5/10/20 – 9/10/20 and then we hope to be back in the classroom together from Monday 12/10. If there are any changes to these dates we will let you know. Keep an eye out on the Compass Newsfeed for any further updates to these arrangements.
Next week’s work will continue to focus on building skills for summarising text, and some work on 2D shapes for maths. We have provided some choice with the writing tasks. Our main focus is to ensure that the students are having some writing practise every day.
Thanks to all the families who have been emailing the student work to us. It provides a great insight about their learning and also helps us to plan. Please continue to send this work through until we are back at school together again.
To celebrate the end of term three, we will be holding a WebEx dance party for all the Foundation students on the last day of term at 12.00pm. Students can join us for some fun and fancy foot work via Leigh’s WebEx room at http://eduvic.webex.com/meet/richardson.leigh.m
|Science Night 2020
Each year MPPS holds a Science Night focused on the National Science Week theme. This year the theme is ‘Deep Blue: innovation for the future of our oceans’. Unfortunately this annual celebration of science has been one of our school’s several community events that have been put on hold this year.
So that students and families don’t miss out on exploring this year’s theme, and enjoy hands on activities, we have created the MPPS Science Week 2020 blog.
It has been set up to allow families to dip in and out of at their own pace. It is chock-a-block full of fun family activities, 360 degree virtual experiences, how to draw sea creature tutorials, MPPS staff reading their favourite ocean themed books, good news stories and important updates on the state of the world’s ocean.
If you do photograph or film your family’s responses or constructions, and don’t mind sharing them with us, each other and on the world wide web, please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org and they will be added to the blog. You can also share your thoughts through the blog’s comment boxes.
Finally, this site not only contains lots to entertain your family it also contains an important message, please feel free to pass on the link to family and friends.
Have a great last week as we move towards a much needed and well deserved break.
Alice and Leigh
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We are looking forward to the opportunity to catch up with you all this coming week through the Three Way Conferences. These are being held Tuesday and Thursday. If you haven’t made an appointment yet, you can make a booking on Compass.
Students will choose two pieces of work to showcase during the conference. We have let them know, and will remind them again on Monday, but they may need some help from you to be prepared. We would ordinarily support them in choosing their work, and practise with role playing and coaching. The conferences will look a little different this year without the extensive preparation that usually goes into it but will give them the chance to talk about what they have achieved and will be good practise for next year.
There will be no WebEx conferences for students next Tuesday and Thursday due to Three Way Conferences. Reading conferences will be held on Wednesday, using the Tuesday “reading groups” timetable. Please check your times and let us know if there are any issues.
Our maths activities for the coming week focus on problem solving for both addition and subtraction. They are worded problems so students may need your assistance to understand what they are being asked to solve. Reading activities have a continued focus on summarising using the same story three days in succession. Writing tasks we offer are suggestions, and we are more than happy for them to do their own personal writing. The intention is to build writing stamina and continued development of fine motor strength.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us via email or join our open WebEx on Friday afternoons: 2:30- 3:00pm in your class teacher’s WebEx rooms.
