Learning goal:  I can draw a duck.

Christine’s example

Your task:

Drawing is a really important skill. We need to think about things like the size and shape of what we are drawing. This week we are learning to draw a duck! There are so many ducks at the many local parks in Moonee Valley. I have even seen some ducks with their baby ducklings! Have you?

Arts Principles:

Scale: The size of what we are drawing.

Materials:

  • Paper or arts book to work  in.
  • Grey lead pencil.
  • Coloured pencils or paints.

First, look at three very different artworks of ducks.

This first artwork is a GIANT rubber duck which floats along the river in Hong Kong. It’s by the artist named Florentijin Hofman. What do you notice about this artwork?

This second artwork is called “Ducks and Ducklings by a Pond”, 1861 by the artist John Frederick Herring. What do you see in this artwork?

This third artwork by Nancy Schön is called “Make way for Ducklings” and it’s situated in Boston. What do you wonder about this artwork?

Next, watch this video of Christine going through the task.

Then,

  • Using grey lead pencil draw your duck in the centre of your page.
  • Then add realistic colours to your duck like green, brown and gold.
  • Add a background for your duck to go in such as grass, pond and land.
  • Colour everything in using paints or coloured pencils.

Finally.

Take a step back and look at your amazing duck artwork!

Well done, Amazing Artist! I’d love you to send me a photo to my email address:
