Learning goal: I can draw a spooky house.

Key words:

Spooky house

Christine’s example. This is what you will create!

Arts Elements & Arts Principles:

Space: we want to fill up the whole page with our spooky drawing.  We dont’ want our spooky house to be too small.

Line: We are going to learn a new skill when we draw today. It’s called cross hatching. It’s about using lines to make things look lighter or darker.

Materials:

  • Grey lead pencil.
  • Black marker.
  • Coloured pencils, texta or paint.
  • Paper or arts book to work in.

Your task:

Halloween is coming up. It’s one of my favourite times of the year. I love dressing up and getting all spooky. This week we are going to learn to draw a spooky haunted house.

Just remember, that haunted houses aren’t really very scary. They just look a bit spooky but they are really tricking you!

First, take a look at these images of haunted houses

What do you see? What do you notice? What do you wonder?

Next, watch the video of Christine going through the task in more detail.

Then,

  • Using greylead pencil start by drawing the outline of your spooky house and tree- keep it really big and take up most of the page.
  • Draw the moon behind the house.
  • Add the windows and a cat below the house.
  • Go ove everything using a black marker. Add the cross hatching lines.
  • Add black shadows using paint, pencil or oil pastel.

Finally, you’re finished!!

Well done, Amazing Artist! I’d love you to send me a photo to my email address:
