Thursday 28/10/21 – Creative Challenge

Learning Goal: I can make a toy camera.

Last Monday was Toy Camera Day. Today you will get to make your own toy camera.

First, you will need some of the following:

  • Cardboard tube
  • Bottle top, plastic lid of a spray can
  • Glue
  • Small box (for example a mini cereal box)
  • Scissors
  • Plastic wrap, coloured paper or cardboard
  • Tape
  • Ribbon

Next:

  1. Cut a 2-inch section from a cardboard tube and glue it to the center of the box to make a camera lens.
  2. Decorate the camera and camera lens.
  3. Cut a small rectangular hole above the lens on the front of the box. Then cut out a rectangular hole in the same spot on the back of the box to create a viewfinder.
  4. Tape clear plastic wrap over the two holes to cover.
  5. On the sides of the box, glue the ends of a ribbon long enough to use as a shoulder strap.

Finally, these instructions will help you create the simple camera in the picture above. Use your imagination and come up with your own design. Below are some images you could use as inspirations.

Don’t forget to share your picture with your teacher via OneNote.

Learning Goal: I can select a creative challenge.

As we prepare to return to on site learning we would like you to create something wonderful you would like to share with the class.

First, click on the link to see all the creative challenges we’ve posted on the 3/4 blog this year.

Next, select one you haven’t done, or would like to repeat. I really liked the ones where you made a mask, or something you could wear. What about you?

Then, complete the creative challenge you have selected.

Finally, don’t forget to share picture with your teacher via OneNote. Your teacher will then be able to share this with your class when we return to on site learning. Please note, at this stage we are not allowed to bring these sort of things to school.

Remember: We’d like to see your creations when you return to school so please post a picture on the OneNote.

Friday 22/10/21 – Friday Fun!

At the end of a busy week of work, it is time for Friday Fun!

Friday Fun about using all your skills, ideas and creative thinking in an enjoyable way.

We have a suggested activity for you below, but we also know that sometimes you might not have the right materials available, or you may be feeling inspired to create something different. Use your imagination and go for it!

Here are some guidelines for Friday Fun:

  • Avoid screens: you have had so much time all week working online, and we know many of you play games on devices in your free time as well. Friday Fun is a chance to get offline and into the real world.
  • Use what you have: you might have the items for the suggested activity, or adapt or change it based on what you’ve got at home. You might have some other things at home that you have been excited to use (a new lego set, some water colour paints, a fantastic cardboard box that you could turn into anything).
  • You might like to create alone or collaboratively: sometimes it’s nice to take some time to just work on something on your own, and other times you might want to ask a family member to join you. You might even like to connect with a friend, classmate or relative virtually – have them on screen nearby while you work on something off the screen.
  • Have fun: this is a great time to focus on things that you enjoy!

Your teachers would love to see a picture of what you create in OneNote!

Here is today’s suggested Friday Fun activity:

Learning GoalI can make an Origami Frog that jumps.

Today you are  going to make an Origami Frog that jumps.

First, you will need a piece of paper cut into a square.

Now, follow the images below that show the steps to make an Origami Frog.

Thenyou may want to build a couple of frogs.

Next, can you come up with some games for your frogs:

  • Which frog jumps the furthest?
  • Grab some straws and organise a steeplechase track.
  • Draw a chalk bullseyes.

Finally, don’t forget to share your picture with your teacher via OneNote.

Wednesday 20/10/21 – Creative Challenge

Learning Goal: I can create my name in an interesting and creative way.

First, you name can say a lot about who you are. How you choose to represent your name can say even more.

Next, experiment with some ideas and a plan of a creative and interesting way to draw your name. Think about some personal symbols or drawings of things that interest you. You might want to include some repeat designs or patterns. Think of color schemes:

  • red, yellow, orange for a warm feel
  • blue, violet, green for a cool feel
  • using all of the same color but adding white and black

Then, come up with 5 thumbnail sketches of what your design might look like. Thumbnail sketches are small quick pencil drawings of what your larger finished, more detailed, design will look like.

Finally,  create your final design.

Challenge: instead of a drawing or painting you might want to create a three dimensional sculpture of your name, or at least your initials.

Don’t forget to share your picture with your teacher via OneNote.

Tuesday 19/10/21 – Creative Challenge

Learning GoalI can create an Owl Puppet.

Today you are  going to create an Owl Puppet. Pictures of the steps are in the slideshow below:

First, you will need a paper or plastic cup, white paper, colored paper, black paper, sticky tape or glue, scissors and something to cut a small hole with.

Now, with scissors, cut out oval feather shapes from colored paper. Glue in layered rows around cup.

Nexttrace your hands and cut out. These are your face feathers. From a different coloured paper, cut out a beak. Cut two circles from the white paper, and two larger black circles.

Thenglue eyes onto the face feathers. Fold beak and glue it between eyes.

Now, glue the eyes and face feathers to top of the cup. If you want, punch two holes facing each other and thread elastic or string through to wear as a hat.

Finally, if you don’t have the materials needed  to make the owl, maybe you want to try making a jellyfish or a tissue box monster.

Don’t forget to share your picture with your teacher via OneNote.

Monday 18/10/21 – Creative Challenge

Learning Goal: I can create a self-portrait.

Today you are  going to draw a portrait of yourself.

First, gather your colored pencils, markers, crayons and a sheet of paper.

Nextdraw a simple line drawing of yourself showing your head and shoulders,

Thendraw a line down the middle of the face.

Now, colour one side, showing your skin tone, your hair colour and the colour of the jacket or shirt you are wearing. Keep it simple and realistic, keep it to what you can see.

Finally, on the other side, add in what we call your identity markers. These are the things that show who you are, your interests, and your history. They tell us who you are through a picture.

Don’t forget to share your picture with your teacher via OneNote.

Get your body moving!

Choose one of the short song clips below and create a performance. You can do it by yourself or get someone around you involved. You might just like to move around to the music for your own enjoyment, or you might like to work out a quick routine, add an outfit or accessory and film it to share with your teacher!

Get your best rock star look and practise your air guitar:

Get into the groove and move along with the words:

Throw on some bright colours or sparkles for some high energy dancing:

Prepare to boot scoot and line dance to this one (Lee’s favourite):

Thursday 14/10/21 – Creative Challenge

Learning Goal: I can plan a treasure hunt.

Today’s creative challenge is to plan a treasure hunt for your family.

First, you need to think what will the treasure be.

Next, where will you hide your treasure?

Then, think about what you will need to prepare to give to your family members so they can go on the treasure hunt. Will they need a map, a guide, supplies, costumes?

Finally, prepare a creative way to invite your family members to the treasure hunt. Will it be a message in a bottle, a mysterious note left on the TV or clues left around the house?

Before you start, think about the best time to run your treasure hunt. While you might plan and organise it today, you might want to run it on the weekend.

Finally, don’t forget to share a picture of your creation with your teacher via OneNote.

Wednesday 13/10/21 – Creative Challenge

Learning Goal: I can explore drawing.

Your challenge for today is to explore ways to draw.

First, collect your favourite toy, something to draw with and some blank paper.

Next, place your favourite toy in front of you. Spend some time just looking at it. Notice all you can about it. The way its placed, any scratches or broken bits. What makes it unique and special.

Now, close your eyes start to draw your chosen object. From memory, keeping your eyes closed.

Next, open your eyes and, on another sheet of paper again draw your chosen object. This time keep looking at all the details.

Now, compare your two drawings.

Finally, you might want to repeat this activity. This time you could find somewhere inside or outside. Take a moment to really observe what you see then close your eyes and draw. Then open them and draw a second picture.  Also, don’t forget to share with your teacher via OneNote.
