Thursday 10/06 – Reading
Goal: I can identify and find the meaning of different nouns
First, press play to hear the book “A Mink, A Fink, A Skating Rink: What is a noun?”
Link: A mink a fink a skating rink
Next, write down what you think the author’s purpose is for this text. Remember, sometimes an author wants to persuade, inform or entertain. Sometimes they might want to do a combination of these!
Then, Write down some of the interesting nouns from the book (in the table below), and write down what you think they mean.
Finally, Once you have completed this, use a dictionary to find the definition of the work and add it to your table! You might have a dictionary at home, or you can use this online dictionary here:
http://wordcentral.com/cgi-bin/student
When you look up a word in the dictionary, there might be more than one definition. Make sure today that you are looking at the ‘noun’ definition.
Noun | I think it means… | The dictionary definition says… |
Example:
mill |
A place where they make flour |
a building with machinery for grinding grain into flour a machine used in treating (as by grinding, crushing, stamping, cutting, or finishing) raw material |
mink | ||
gown | ||
mayor | ||
chandelier |
If you would like to, you could choose some different nouns from the book to record in your table.
