Year 5/6 Week 3 Term 4 Remote Learning 6.0

First: Listen to Stef read out the instructions:

Learning goal: I can continue to participate in a range of net/wall games

Now: Keep it up

  • try to get a personal best rally by tapping a ball or balloon up to yourself with your hand. The object must not touch the ground.

Equipment:

  • ball-socks, tennis ball, balloon

How to Play:

  • try and keep a ball off the ground with your hand
  • try using your non-dominant hand or alternate left and right

Modify:

  • you can challenge yourself by changing the ball type-newspaper ball

Activity time: 5 mins

Before playing the next game, revise the 4 R’s and notice how you can use these when playing:

Unpacking the 4 “R’s” in Net/Wall games

  • READ the ball and player movement – where is it going?
  • RESPOND with a movement – where and how should I move?
  • REACT with a shot – what type of shot will I use? Where am I aiming for?
  • RECOVER for the next shot – where should I move to? How do I prepare for the next shot?

 Next: Lobster ball You will need a family member to play this game with

Equipment:

  • tennis ball or a ball that bounces
  • 8 x cones

How to play:

Level 1

  • set up your courts for you and your partner. Using a bouncy ball, underarm throw the ball
  • let the ball bounce once before catching the aim is to keep a rally and work as a team

Level 2:

  • at this level, aim to score a point by trying to get the ball to bounce twice in your opponents playing area

Level 3

  • this level focuses on attacking into open space.
  • change the length and/or width of the playing courts
  • focus on attacking at the front or back of the court, or right and left of the court

Activity time: 10 mins

Then: Air Pong- You will need a family member to play this game with

Equipment:

  • Balloon
  • 8 x cones (bottles, teddy bears)

How to play:

  • with your partner, create a rectangular playing zone marked with cones and between them and out of bounds/dead zone.
  • students serve with a drop-hit action (drop the ball before hitting) from behind back line of playing zone.
  • you have three hits on your side to return the balloon.
  • the aim is to hit the balloon into your opponents play area without it landing outside the area

Modify

  • after 5-10 cooperative passes, the game NOW becomes competitive. You can score points when the balloon lands in your opponent’s square, or the opponent hits the balloon out of the playing zone.
  • add in a net using chair of varying heights

Activity time: 10 mins

Finally: Reflection

Send a picture or video of you completing the activity AND answer the following questions:

1.How could you describe the aim of a net and wall game such as tennis?

2. What must you do to be in the best position to catch/return the ball?

3. Do you know where you can you play Net Wall games such as tennis, volleyball and badminton at               school and in the local community?

4. Where might you attempt to play the object so that you can get back to the best position in your                   area after hitting the balloon?
