Year 5/6 Week 1 Term 4 Remote Learning 6.0

Look at the picture below. What are some examples of net/wall games? What are the skills needed to play these games?

Now: Self Rally

Equipment:

1 x Balloon or rolled up socks

Net (drink bottles, rolled up towel, stuffed toys)

 How to Play:

  • find some space and divide it into 2 courts/halves
  • stand on one side of the court and hit the balloon with your hand into the other half of the court
  • run to the other side and hit the balloon back over to the other side before it hits the ground
  • continue to play until the balloon hits the ground.

Next: Wall Tennis

Equipment:

  • Wall
  • Tennis ball or a ball that bounces

How to play: Wall Tennis

  • bounce the ball against the wall, making sure it bounces once before hitting the wall.
  • let the ball bounce once on the ground before catching it with both hands. Continue for 1 minute
  • repeat the above skill but this time catch the ball with only your right hand 20 times and then only your left hand 20 times
  • now bounce the ball against the wall, making sure it bounces once before hitting the wall, and catch the ball on the full. Try this for 1-2 minutes
  • repeat the above skill but this time catch the ball on the full with only your right hand 20 times and then only your left hand 20 times
  • this time, bounce the ball against the wall, making sure it bounces before hitting the wall but use a flat hand. Complete for 1-2 minutes

Then: Knock down the bottle challenge

The aim of this game is to try and hit the ball into space.

 Equipment:

  • drink bottle
  • tennis ball or ball that bounces
  • wall

How to play:

  • the aim of this game is to knock down the bottle with the ball after it has bounced off the wall
  • once you have knocked the bottle down, move the bottle to another spot and try again.

Finally: Reflection 

Email the answers to the following questions:

  1. What happens when the ball is thrown softly?
  2. What happens when the ball is thrown hard?
  3. Name 4 net/wall game
